"To be seen in all its beauty, the Bosporus should be looked upon by moonlight ..."

Julia Pardoe (1806-1862), traveller to Constantinople in 1835.

This is my first novel. It explores the enigma of Emperor Basil II (976-1025). He reigned for nearly fifty years yet almost uniquely among medieval monarchs he never married. When he died, he chose not to be buried in the great church of the Holy Apostles in Constantinople, like his predecessors, but outside the city in the small church of Hebdomon. My version of events suggests why.
